I agree completly. There is nothing like the feeling of history behind holding old volumes in your hand. Kindle can never compete with that.
In the British Library over the summer, I found manuscripts dating from before Victoria was even conceived. I felt like a doctor, feeling the pulse of writers long since gone.

The Kindle can't compete! But, in my opinion, it really doesn't. I firmly believe there's a place for e-readers in this 21st Century. At the same time, I'm an avid book collector with over 2,000 volumes and counting. The collector in me will never die, even as the reader in me is able to read faster - and more - thanks to my electronic reader. I sometimes read electronically then buy the hardcover if I think it's worth collecting. Whether this ends up saving me any money (or costing me more) is debatable, but if it were just about saving money I'd stick to the library.
Incidentally, I found your blog (and your books!) via a discussion regarding Literary Fiction at Amazon and look forward to starting with the Mozart book.

Diana, there is a place for the Kindle also...my husband pointed out to me when I packed 8 heavy books and one change of clothes (priorities!) for a trip that Kindles are lighter. thanks for your kind words re my writing. I will look up your site!
